The Nissan GT-R platform is one of the most demanding platforms on the brake system due to the severe conditions being applied on the brakes by the chassis, and its’ supporting aids. (550 horsepower, over 3800 lbs curb weight, high center of gravity, and multiple electronic aids like EBD and modern Attessa 4WD system).

While using the OE brake system with Alcon 2-piece replacement discs is plenty enough for a lightly modified R35 GT-R with basic power upgrades, sports or R-Compound tires and some basic aero modifications, a heavily modified time attack or race prepared GT-R can really stress the OE brake system beyond its’ capacity. The result is usually pad fade, fluid fade, and lots of expense spent in replacement seals and other OE replacement parts which need to be purchased directly from Nissan. This happens because the OE Nissan calipers are designed to be cost effective and as such, are cast units designed for the street, not for Motorsport use.

The Alcon Superkit Street and Race brake upgrades are engineered to be a complete front & rear brake upgrade for the Nissan R35 GT-R for a beginner all the way to the advanced driver regardless of the level of modification the car has seen. Alcon in the UK has done extensive brake dynamometer and on-car testing to ensure the Superkit upgrades are tailored for a street application (low dust, noise, appropriate friction materials) or a race application (race friction, aggressive disc grooving, different caliper finish).

Alcon Components in the UK has the resources, testing capability, motorsport experience (FIA sanctioned Rally, Formula Cars, Open wheel, Super GT, Nismo GT Academy, etc…), and capability to engineer a complete brake package for the Nissan R35 GT-R. The result of all the in house testing and development is the Alcon Superkit brake upgrades for the Nissan R35 GT-R.

100% DEVELOPED specifically FOR THE NISSAN R35 GT-R

The Alcon Superkit “Street” and “Race” are brake upgrades tested and engineered specifically for the brake demands of the Nissan GT-R. The Nissan GT-R also uses specific 170 mm bolt spacing for the rear caliper mounting, so the Alcon Superkit rear calipers are engineered with OEM fit, finish and integration in mind. The Alcon Superkit complete brake upgrade also maintains the functionality of the OEM parking brake.

BENEFIT

The benefit of this is a seamless install and a brake system which plugs right in to the OE ABS, Master cylinder, hydraulics and maintains the ideal brake balance for the R35 GT-R.

ALCON PROPRIETARY “OSCA” CALIPER DESIGN

Alcon Superkit calipers are designed using a proprietary “OSCA” Caliper design. The OSCA caliper design process is a time intensive and manual process involving using CAD and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to create as light and rigid caliper as possible. FEA is used to analyze the structural stress areas of a caliper design and material to ensure that as much weight is removed from the caliper while maintaining optimum caliper stiffness.

BENEFIT

The benefit of this is a caliper that weighs as little as possible and offers the best possible performance (pedal consistency, least amount of deflection, among others). It is important to note that the Alcon Superkits for the Nissan GT-R are lighter than the OE brake system found on the Nissan R35 GT-R while improving caliper rigidity and overall performance.

IMPROVED THERMAL CAPACITY

To improve the thermal capacity of the brake system over OE, the overall disc size, annulus (radial depth) of the brake disc pad, pad surface area and volume are all drastically improved over the Nissan GT-R OE brake system. The Alcon Superkits use a 400 x 36mm front and 383 x 33mm rear brake disc, which are significantly larger than the Nissan GT-R OE discs (which are sized as 380 x 34mm or 390 x 32.5mm in the front and 380 x 30mm in the rear). The Alcon discs use a 77 mm disc annulus versus the OE 65 mm disc annulus, and the pad area is significantly larger as well.

BENEFIT

The benefit of this is maximum surface area to apply even pressure and help dissipate brake energy and heat. Pad and disc life is also greatly improved because the temperature and pressure is spread over a larger surface area.

SPECIFIC SURFACE FINISHES

To ensure maximum heat resistance and caliper protection on the street or on the track, Alcon Superkits use specific individual surface finished. Alcon Street Superkit calipers are painted using using a high-temperature paint, while Alcon Race Superkit calipers are finished using a proprietary “ENP Finish”. ENP finish is an extremely durable and heat resistant finish developed specifically by Alcon, which protects the caliper under high demand use (such as what you find on the racetrack).

BENEFIT

The use of heavier duty heat-resistant paints and nickel finishes ensures that calipers have the least chance of color change on the street or the racetrack. Alcon's Motorsport derived “ENP” finish also assists in reducing heat transfer from the brake discs and pads into the calipers.

SPECIFIC FRICTION MATERIALS

Alcon Superkits include Pagid RS9-2 “street” or RS29 “race” brake pads depending on the kit configuration and intended use. Pagid's RS9-2 compound is a low wearing endurance material which offer good initial bite, stable friction levels, all while maintaining low disc wear.

BENEFIT

The benefit is having the right friction material for the customer or the intended use of the vehicle without compromising performance or drivability. Regardless of whether the application is street or race, having the right friction material in the system ensures stable performance regardless of the environment.

UNIQUE DISC IRON METALLURGY

Alcon Motorsport discs use a unique cast iron alloy which offer increased friction, wear resistance and resistance to thermal shock and fatigue. It is important to remember that not all discs are engineered the same, and there is a difference between different grades of “cast iron” found on the market.

BENEFIT

Greatly improved thermal capacity and heat management over the Nissan OE System which allows for better temperature management and greater longevity of the components under use. These Alcon brake discs eliminate surface heat quickly so that it is not transferred to the calipers, pads, and brake fluid, providing consistent stopping power.

improved disc geometry

The Alcon Motorsport discs used with the Alcon Superkits are engineered with a specific continuous curved 48 vane construction that improves airflow and optimizes cooling. The Alcon Superkit discs (400 x 36mm and 385 x 33mm) also feature Alcon's proprietary “turbulator” vane design.

BENEFIT

The benefit of the vane geometry and the “turbulators” found inside the vanes is to generate more airflow through the disc which helps dissipate heat more effectively. The result is lower disc and pad temperatures on the street or on the racetrack. The lower the temperatures, the longer the components will tend to last.

GROOVED FRICTION FACE

Alcon Motorsport discs feature either “C” or “S” Grooves in the disc friction faces which aids in improving initial bite by continuously refreshing the pad’s friction surface, and prevents the build-up of gas between the pad and disc surface.

BENEFIT

The right disc face type can be specified for each customer’s individual use or driving style. The Alcon C Groove offers great overall performance while reducing NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness), while the Alcon S Groove offers a higher initial bite, a more stable pedal stroke, and more consistent performance on the racetrack.
