OEM FITMENT
Alcon 2 piece replacement disc rings and matching hardware are engineered to directly replace the vehicle's OEM disc rings and hardware while reusing the OEM bells. The result is a more cost effective upgrade for the customer, while upgrading the key components.
IMPROVED PERFORMANCE
Alcon’s C Groove, which is used in professional racing, offers a higher initial response, while maintaining consistent disc and pad wear.
IMPROVED DISC LIFE
Greatly improved thermal capacity and heat management over OE discs which allows for better temperature management and greater longevity of the components.
48 DIRECTIONAL CURVED COOLING VANES
Alcon Motorsport discs use a specific continous curved vane construction that improves airflow and optimizes cooling.
UNIQUE MOTORSPORT GRADE METALLURGY
Alcon Motorsport discs use a unique cast iron alloy which offers increased friction, wear resistance and resistance to thermal shock and fatigue.
"C" GROOVED FRICTION FACE
The discs feature the “C” Grooves / Slots, which aids in improving initial bite, continuously refreshing the pad’s friction surface, and prevents the build-up of gas between the pad and disc surface.
The Nissan GTR platform is one of the most demanding platforms on the brake system due to the severe conditions being applied on the brakes by the chassis, and its’ supporting aids. (550 horsepower, over 3800 lbs curb weight, and multiple electronic aids like EBD and modern Attessa 4WD system).
While it is possible to simply keep spending excessive amounts of money on replacement OE discs rings, the metallurgy and design of the OE discs are designed for maximum comfort and cost savings to the vehicle manufacturer, not for maximum longevity or performance. Swapping the OE discs to motorsport grade brake disc rings and hardware, which are designed for use under the most severe braking conditions, will reduce the overall long term costs of brake consumables on the track and improve the overall performance of the brake system.
Multiple Nismo GT Academy teams have relied on Alcon Motorsport discs in professional racing categories such as IMSA, Grand Am, and 24 hour endurance races (Example: Dubai 24 hour) for their longevity, resistance to thermal cracking, and improved performance. The exact same Alcon Motorsport disc designs and castings used in professional racing with the Nismo GT Academy teams are offered as part of the Alcon 2-piece disc program.
On the Nissan GTR, Nissan equips an OE brake system which is very good to start (considering OE caliper standards) to Monobloc 6 piston front and 4 piston rear units which are significantly better than the previous models. However, due to the Nissan GTR’s high center of gravity and chassis dynamics, the existing brake components (rotors and sometimes calipers) might not be up to task when used on the track. The OE drilled discs found on the Nissan GTRs are designed for maximum comfort, low noise and to be cost effective to the vehicle manufacturer. However, they are not suited for track day or heavy duty use since drilled discs are more prone to fatigue and heat related cracking. Alcon 2-piece disc rings and hardware also retain the factory rotor bells (hats) which allows this upgrade to be extremely cost effective for the track enthusiast.
